He’s Going to be ok!!!!

Here’s the story as we know it. We’ll be updating this page as new information becomes available.

As we understand, around 3:30 on Friday afternoon Mike ran into a car driven by an elderly woman. A stop sign had apparently been knocked over earlier in the day - and Mike didn’t know he was entering an intersection with active traffic. In the State Trooper’s report he noted that calls had been coming in since 6:30 that morning that the stop sign was down…Mike never knew it was there.

Fred, Melinda and Ken (Good Samaritans who were first on the scene) arrived 2 minutes after the accident. They were on their Harley’s and saw the down bike and immediately started looking for Mike. They found Mike in the woods some 100 yards from point of impact. They were trained on how to deal with an injured motorcyclist.  Ken says, Melinda was amazing and was talking with Mike while they waited for paramedics. First Responders arrived some 20 minutes later.  First responders were Navy personnel from Camp David, paramedics arrived 10-15 minutes after that.   Ambulance took him up the road to a school where he was then transported to the University of Maryland, via Trooper 3 Chopper.
He’s pretty banged up but the Doctors are saying he’ll be fine. He’s had an operation to repair his shoulder, another to repair his ankle, has some broken ribs and a broken nose. But all indications are that after some physical therapy, he’ll be fine.
He is clearly uncomfortable while being intubated and will be much more comfortable once its removed (were hoping Wednesday).  He is alert and communicated head nods, blinks and Mike’s ever-cheeky hand gestures.  The nurse who was caring for him is incredible.  We are lucky to have such an attentive person looking after our Michael.
Stay tuned for more information.
